Danke an Carolyne.
delightful home in Flavigny sur Ozerain
We spent a wonderful week in this charming village. Our home for the week was in the lower house, where we could not have been more content! The bedroom was spacious and comfortable, looking over a beautiful valley and the bathroom was wonderful, with a large shower. Heated towel rails provided warm towels on a chilly morning: bliss!
The eat in kitchen was extremely well equipped and we were able to prepare lovely meals. We also had access to the garden which also looks over the valley and the hills beyond: it was so tranquil and made us feel as though we were in another time.
The village itself is utterly delightful and there are 2 great restaurants if one is disinclined to cook! We loved the old Carolingian crypt, and found wonderful places to walk in the nearby woods.
There is much to see and do in the area, including the stunning Abbaye de Fontenay, the medieval towns of Saumur and Dijon and wineries galore.
This house is a wonderful place to stay while exploring the area and I would highly recommend it. It is immaculately clean and extremely comfortable: we cannot wait to return!
Great house in a great location!
The house was beautifully remodeled and still retained the unique character of it’s medivial village location. It was a wonderful spot to spend 10 days since exploring the immediate area was interesting and it was easy to get to bigger cities like Dijon, Chablis and Beaune. The owners provided a wealth of helpful information making the trip even better like providing maps for walks to places like the old wash house on the edge of the village. We loved spending time in the garden by the koi pond with the beautiful backdrop of the hills. We hope to return soon!
Modern updates with the original ambience
A wonderful surprise with the updates to this more than charming home with the still original flooring , beams and walls . We were lucky to be greeted by the owners Carol and her husband who showed us all around and got the wine out to enjoy in the lovely garden that overlooked the valley. We enjoyed the local wine made in this town after our nearly 3 hour drive from Paris. The village has retained all the original homes and narrow streets. So many of the homes have been renovated inside by the many people from around the world who want to preserver this wonderful village . Our 3 bedroom and 3 bath home exceeded all our expectations for we 5 ladies. The home was also stocked with the basics for all our needs. The local grocery store was about a 10 minute drive away .
We used this as our home base for 5 days while we traveled around the countryside and enjoyed the , monastery, winery, Anise candy museum and gift shop and couple of restaurants in this ancient village.
I would return to Carols home in a heartbeat. Rent from Carol and you won’t be disappointed!
We had a great time staying in Flavigny! The house was perfect; just the right amount of amenities without changing the character! We would definitely stay there again. Loved the fish pond and the whiney fish!
A Rare Opportunity
We weren't sure what to expect when staying at a 400+ year-old home in small French village with a name I wasn't sure how to pronounce, and had trouble finding on a map. But our few experiences with VRBO had all been very good, so we decided to give it a go. What a find! The property was just as described. Our group of six, over-seventy, wine-drinking, cheese-eating, fun-loving friends enjoyed immersing into rural France. We never experienced one moment of being uncomfortable with the home, the village, or the villagers. We hit the jackpot because our hosts, Tom and Carolyn, happened to be visiting during the same time. They are wealth of knowledge about the area and went out their way to see that we didn't miss anything. They were kind enough to join us for "wine tasting" a couple of evenings and fit in like old friends. It was icing on the cake. If you want to spend some time in Burgundy this is the way to do it. Dejon and Beaune are only an hour away. Vezelay is a must-see 11/2 hour trip. Our only mistake was in not renting longer.
Dziesięć minut od Kanału Burgundii z rowerowych i szlaków turystycznych. Wycieczka na drogach określonymi przez Cezara. Zwiedzanie fabryki Anis de Flavigny gdzie powstają słynne cukierki, położony w zabytkowym Abby w mieście.
