Another fantastic holiday at L'Aire de L'Aigle
Our second visit was just as good if not better than our first. On our drive up the mountain we were somewhat disappointed to find it was raining in Morzine, however, as we headed up the hill to L'Aire de L'Aigle that rain turned to snow, so we arrived to the classic 'Winter Wonderland'! The chalet is incredibly spacious, the views are so spectacular that if you don't want to spend all day skiing it is the most glorious place to hang out! As I am not such a keen skier, I often walked down the path through the woods into Morzine to meet the children, after a hot chocolate we would then hop on a bus (they run every hour) and stops outside the chalet. In the evenings the children had great fun playing table tennis. On our last evening we walked 150m to a fantastic Alpine restaurant and ate the best cheese fondue I have ever tasted!
One of the Best Holidays Ever!
The only thing not perfect about this chalet is that it does not belong to us!
Everything about it is second to none from the beautiful aspect, to the stunning design, well appointed kitchen with walk in larder and glorious open plan living area with breathtaking views across the mountains. The attention to detail is notable, and of a type that you only really get when the owners live in and love the chalet as these do.
The bedrooms are tastefully decorated, warm and comfortable with lovely ensuites and in the case of the master, a fabulous walk in shower and vast sunken bath.
We were a group of 3 families including 10 children ranging in age from 5 to 16. There really was something for everyone. A full range of games and toys on the mezzanine about the living area for the little ones, and a basement games room for the rowdy boys, big enough for them to let off what steam they had left after a day's skiing, out of earshot!
Access to the slopes is via the shuttle bus which stops just past the end of the drive, and as its the end of the line, there is never a problem getting a seat in the morning. There are several restaurants within walking distance, one of which we sampled on the first day we arrived and which was lovely. We were planning to visit them all, being new to the self catering ski holiday, but the kitchen was so pleasant to use and the dining area accommodated us all around the impressive trestle table, so we never did!
Nobody wanted to leave this chalet to go home! And the upshot of what was pronounced "the best ski holiday ever" is that we have been totally spoiled and cannot possibly hope to find a chalet to match - so we're back for 2014 and probably for as many future years as the owners will have us!
The Pullen family
‘We have been fortunate enough to stay at L’Aire de L’Aigle during both winter and summer. The chalet is simply stunning effortlessly combining quality and luxury with a warm homely feel. It’s location is spectacular yet still within easy reach of all amenities whether summer hiking/cycling or winter skiing. Preferring to holiday late season we have experienced some of the best April ski conditions I can remember and the summers seem to roll on well into September. It really is a very special place and superb family retreat’.
You are so right, Morzine has a lot to offer outside the main holiday season. Glad your recent stay was such a success.
Luxurious, spacious chalet
We have stayed at L'Aire de L'Aigle twice and have no hesitation in recommending it. The beautiful traditional style chalet is sited at the end of a quiet valley above Morzine with stunning views of the mountains. Access to the resort and slopes by a shuttle bus could not be easier and as the pick-up point is the first stop (25m from the door!) a seat for the short journey is guaranteed.
The accommodation is very spacious and of the highest quality and our large family group (14) could all sit down for dinner or lounge around in complete comfort. When the sun shines taking an aperitif on the balcony and drinking in the view is quite delightful.
On a practical note the kitchen is extremely well equipped and (I am told) is a pleasure to cook in, while the larder won accolades from our chefs. As for the boot room it is large with boot warmers and drying cupboard and coped with our large group.
The transfer time from Geneva is very acceptable at about 11/2 hours and Morzine has good supermarkets and many restaurants.
The only disadvantage of Morzine - it is not a resort for beginner boarders (too many tracks) apart from this caveat - a great place.
An Amazing Chalet with beautiful views
This is a beautiful, practical and convenient place to stay. Whatever your expectations based on the website descriptions and photos, the reality will exceed them – the scenery, quality of the building, architecture and attention to detail is fantastic.
Our family have been fortunate to stay at the chalet several times and its a very comfortable and relaxing place after a hard day on the slopes or in the mountains. The chalet's large open planned living spaces are perfect for chilling out, tons of wood and stone, bottomless sofas and an open log fire with stunning views of the mountains from the huge glass 'wall' that dominates the middle floor living area.
The house is thoughtfully laid out providing plenty of space for children to disappear and amuse themselves – our teenage boys were rarely seen and had great fun down in the basement playing table tennis.
The bedrooms are cosy with comfortable beds, plenty of clothes storage space and large fluffy towels. The washing machine and tumble dryer are very useful, as is the heated boot rack and drying cupboard in the boot room to dry hats, gloves and scarves overnight.
There is space and garaging for several cars, although the local winter season shuttle bus stops right next to the chalet which provides a very hassle-free way (no queues) of getting to several of the main lift stations in the mornings and returning après-ski in the afternoons.
Socialising and eating in the chalet in the evening is always an attractive option, but Morzine’s many restaurants and bars are within easy striking distance and there are a couple of local restaurants/mountain huts than can provide an even closer alternative.
We will look forward to you staying in the chalet again soon.
Our stay at L'Aire de L'Aigle
Such a lovely traditional chalet which was wonderfully relaxing and spacious
with all the mod cons! A fantastic size kitchen with everything we needed
and plenty of relaxing sofa's, a great games room downstairs for the
children to burn off some more energy, comfortable beds and plentiful hot
water. Getting the children ready for skiing in the large warm dry ski room
was a joy, a very brief walk to the bus stop and then getting them from the
bus over the road to the ski school was all very convenient.
